Lone Oak - Shepard Dawayne Nichol, age 86, of Lone Oak, Texas went home to be with the Lord on June 3rd, 2026 in Royse City, Texas.


Born on Dec. 10, 1939 in Cumby, Texas to Benjamin Shepard Nichol and ImaJean (Vance) Nichol, Dawayne grew up in Royse City. He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran and spent most of his professional career as a custom home builder, primarily in Rockwall and Hunt Counties. In his later years, he and Anna managed numerous investment properties before fully retiring at their beautiful relaxing ranch amongst family in Lone Oak.


Dawayne was a devoted husband, dad and papa.


He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Anna Nichol; his children Shannon Nichol and wife Jana, Sandy Nichol, Steve Nichol and wife Sheila, all of Lone Oak; grandchildren Austin, Hanah, Jack, Halle and Maddie; great grandchildren Lucy and Audrey; and sibling Ed Nichol and wife Janet of Royse City. He is also survived by five step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Johnny Nichol, and grandson Hayden Nichol.


Known for his smile (his nickname was "Smiley"), Dawayne was happiest when visiting with his family and friends. His hobbies and favorite pastimes included fishing, camping, deer hunting, RV'ing to Colorado, snow skiing, golfing, horse riding, country western dancing and watching old western TV shows and movies.


He leaves a legacy of hard work, love for the Lord, love for his family and a life well lived.


A funeral service will be held on June 13 at 11:30 a.m. at Lynch Funeral Service in Greenville, Texas with his nephew Jason Nichol officiating. Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m. and burial will follow at Hall Cemetery in Lone Oak.


Pallbearers will be Austin Nichol, Jack Nichol, Keon Cleary, Todd McNellis, Charlie Bell and Lindan Harris.
