Lone Oak - Sarah Young, 78, formerly of Greenville, Texas died on July 15, 2026, from complications of ALS.

She was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1947 to James Ryland and Doris Young. Her biological mother Doris passed away when Sarah was just four years old, but she was well-loved by and loved her adopted mother, Lila. During her childhood, Sarah attended several Dallas primary, middle and high schools before graduating from Plano High School in 1965, with a graduating class of just 90 students. She then studied Spanish and English secondary education at East Texas State University, graduating in 1969. She got her master's in early childhood education and taught first graders and kindergarteners in Lone Oak until she retired.

Sarah was an accomplished horse rider, saving up money to buy the first of many horses when she was just 12 years old. Her sense of adventure took her from whale watching in the Pacific-Northwest, to wine-tasting in California, as far north as Alaska, snorkeling and scuba diving in the Mexico Riviera and to Washington D.C. to work for the FBI after graduating from college.

Wherever Sarah went, the party followed. She loved a good margarita and could always be found on the dance floor, especially if clogging was involved. Sarah never met a stranger, and she made being warm and welcoming to everyone look effortless. She was vivacious, smart and easily the funniest person in every room. If you knew Sarah you were among the lucky ones who got to be a part of her life-long party.

Sarah was preceded in death by her biological mother, Doris, father, James Ryland, and mother, Lila.

She is survived by her brother Ryland Young and his wife Virginia; sister Janice Holder and her husband Dan Brown; sister Martha Young and her husband Tome Rodgers; eight nieces and nephews, too many great-nieces and nephews to count.

Sarah would have wanted one last party, so there will be a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the ALS Association, the Alzheimer's Association, American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society in Sarah's honor.
