Sandra Johnson Obituary
Celeste - Sandra Jyeton Johnson, 67, of Celeste, Texas passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026 in Greenville, Texas.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel.
Sandy was born on July 11, 1958 in Bossier City, Louisiana to Lester Byron Hesseltine and Joy Jyeton (Short) Hesseltine. She married James Michael Johnson on September 27, 2005 in Greenville, Texas.
Sandy and her siblings were proud Air Force BRATs, raised in the life of military service, sacrifice and adventure. Sandy was born at Barksdale Air Force Base adjacent to Bossier City/Shreveport. In December 1962, their family moved to Wheeler Army Airfield in Hawaii. Then in May 1966, they were stationed at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha, Nebraska. When their father retired from military service in April 1968, the family made one final move to Greenville, Texas which became "home" for them.
After meeting the love of her life, Mike Johnson, she ended up in Claremore, Oklahoma working as a project manager for a window manufacturing company so Mike could continue his career in the airline business. After Mike retired, Sandy was able to fulfill her dream of moving back to Texas to be closer to daughter Erica and her grandkids.
Sandy loved her quiet, little, barndo life in the country with her husband, her dog, Ellie and her two cats.
To know Sandy was to know love. She loved attending all of her grandkids activities. This was her happy place wherever her kids and grandkids were. She was the kind of woman who made everyone feel safe, loved and important. She spent her life caring for others with incredible tenderness and selflessness.
Whether through family gatherings, home cooked meals, kind words or simply being present when someone needed her, she created a lifetime of beautiful memories for those she loved the most. This was her greatest legacy, the love she poured out!
She is survived by her devoted husband of 20 years, Mike Johnson; her children, Erica Newsom, Lauren Gentry (Jason), and Christopher Johnson; her siblings, Debby Douglas, Jim Hesseltine (Kelly), and Mark Hesseltine; and her treasured grandchildren, Savannah Himes, Preslie Hoy, Gavin Williams, and Sylas Gentry, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester Hesseltine and Joy Hesseltine (Honey) and her grandparents Agnes and Pete Matukas and Eunice and Eldon Long.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing a love like hers does not end, it lives on eternally in the heart of all the lives she touched.
We are most thankful for Jesus during this difficult time because of what He did on the cross for her. Because of Sandy's belief in Him and her decision to place her faith and trust in Jesus Christ, we have the peace and assurance of knowing we will see her again one day in Heaven.
Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate the beautiful life she lived. Flowers or plants may be sent to Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
