Sam Grubbs, 90, passed away Sunday, Jan. 23, 2022 at the Oak Manor Nursing Home in Commerce.

Sam was born Oct. 15, 1931 in Floydada to S. G. and Jewel Cannaday Grubbs. He married Joyce Giddiens May 30, 1952. Together, they raised two children.

Sam served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954. He graduated from West Texas State University with a BA and from East Texas State University with an MA.

He pastored at four Baptist churches for six years: Haile Baptist Church of Borger, Honey Creek Baptist Church of Wolfe City, First Baptist Church of Bailey and Hickory Creek Baptist Church of Wolfe City, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Wolfe City. He also taught at Wolfe City High School for one year, ETSU for one year, Texas Southwest College and UT Brownsville for 21 years.

Sam is survived by his wife, Joyce Grubbs of Wolfe City, son Gaines Ferrell Grubbs of Dripping Springs and daughter Kathy Grubbs Dobson of Wolfe City, as well as three nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Samuel Ferrell Grubbs, two sisters, Marilyn Woodruff and Barbara Walls and one nephew.

He spent his retirement years on his property named Tall Oaks, near Wolfe City.

There will be a video memorial service posted online at a later date.
