Funeral services for Howard Garrett, age 72, of Emory, will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Believers Baptist Church in Emory with W.R. Byrd officiating. Interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Emory. Visitation will be held on one-hour prior. Pallbearers are Fannon Meador, Chauncey Wynn, Preston Smith, AmonTah Settle, Devin Settle, Egon Settle. Honorary Pallbearers are Robert Johnson, Fred Hunter, Walter Taylor, David Howard, Ernie Burnette and Joe Mack Porter.

Howard Garrett was born on August 2, 1949 to David Garrett and Mildred McMillan Garrett in Emory, Texas. He passed on September 28, 2021.

He married his high school sweetheart, Glenda Fay Givens on July 12, 1968, in Fort Worth, Texas. Howard was the head deacon of Prairie Grove Baptist Church and a member of the Emory City Council.


Mr. Garrett is survived by his wife, Glenda Fay; daughters, Pamela Ruiz and husband Michael, Savina Settle and husband Egon, Tulea Wynn and husband Chauncey; siblings, James H Bates and wife Marsha, David Garrett and wife Clemmie, Delenis Garrett and wife Nikita, Thomas Garrett and wife Dendra,; grandchildren, Liana, Tiana, Preston, AmonTah, Devin, Natisse and Hendrix; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous others that loved him.


He is preceded in death by parents; sister, Ernestine.
