Dorothy M. Thornton

Mrs. Dorothy M. Thornton, 93, of Winnsboro passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016, in Winnsboro.
Dorothy was born Sept. 14, 1922, in Slocum, Texas, to the late Hamilton West and Nancy Emmie Ball West. She was a homemaker, a member of Smyrna Baptist Church and the WMA's at Smyrna Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, Henry Glen Thornton; sisters Stella O'Neal, Hattie Webb, Gladys West Creager, Beulah Fletcher, and Ozetta Hobson; two brothers, Roscoe West and Willie West; grandchildren Michael Thornton and Renee Jones; and great-grandson Preston Thornton.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Thornton and wife Katie of Winnsboro; daughters Fonda Hawk and husband Raymon of Daingerfield and Patricia Carnagey and husband David of Greenville; five grandchildren, Joey Thornton, Kris Thornton, Nikki Carnagey, Mark Hawk, and Kim Francis; 11 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service is at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at Beaty Funeral Home-Winnsboro with Bro. Danny Suiter, Bro. Dan Hubbell and Bro. Scott Darby officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Winnsboro, with Mark Hawk, Joey Thornton, Kris Thornton, Gene Dawson, Troy Whitworth, Bill Sutphin serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Billy Sanders.
Visitation was held Monday, April 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heartsway Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

January - May
Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.
June - December
Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
