Benny Glenn Abell Obituary

Greenville - Benny Glenn Abell, formerly of the Kingston community, died the evening of April 3rd, 2026 at home with family. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home on Saturday, April 11th, with Rev. Jim Houston and Rev. Ronnie Hickey officiating. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville. Visitation is from 6 to 8 pm Friday, April 10th, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.

The son of J.D and Lyda Faye Abell, he was born Sept. 4, 1940, in Greenville, TX. On May 29, 1971, he was married to Georgia Steed in Kingston.

Mr. Abell was a retired barber in Greenville for 59 years and had been active in the Celeste Booster Club and Celeste Little League. Mr. Abell was a member of Kingston Baptist Church where he drove the church van for several years. Mr. Abell also umpired adult rec league softball games in Greenville. He was an avid sports fan and thoroughly enjoyed watching Texas Ranger baseball games.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Billie Abell of Campbell; grandchildren Trent and Brianna Hemphill of Robertsdale, AL, and Bailey Abell, of Nacogdoches; two great grandchildren, Tatum and Hadley Hemphill of Robertsdale, AL, one brother, Billy and Lynda Abell of Greenville, aunts, Sandra Tate and Sharon and Larry Reilly all of Greenville, uncle, Don and Judith Coppinger of Greenville, nieces, Amy and Aaron White of Greenwood, AR, Lori and Daniel Herrera of Ft. Worth, and Angel and Stephen Harwick of Greenville. His wife, parents and nephew, Rick Reed, preceded him in death.

Pallbearers are Mark Coles, Larry Lyday, Danny Lipsey, Marshall Brooks, Johnny Horton, and Robert Dunham.

The family would like to thank the staff of Family First Home Health and Hospice of Greenville for their wonderful care.

Memorials may be made to Kingston Baptist Church.
