Barbara Kemp McCoy died peacefully at Colonial Lodge in Greenville, Texas, on July 12, 2023.

She was born April 25, 1933 in Waskom, Texas. A committal service will take place on Aug. 7, at 9:15 a.m. at the DFW National Cemetery, at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX.

Barbara was the youngest child of three, born to Bessie Hudspeth Kemp and Oscar Kenneth Kemp. Her parents, her sister Shirley Kemp McFarland and brother, Larry Kemp preceded her in death.

Barbara earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Texas A&M University-Commerce. There, she was a member of Sigma Zeta Chapter of Chi Omega Fraternity. She taught high school home economics in Rains County and State College, Pennsylvania, elementary grades in Caddo Mills, Texas, and was a special education vocational coordinator for Tri County Co-op, before retiring from Commerce ISD.

Barbara married Dr. Dudley Miller in 1955. They were together for 25 years. They had one son, Kenneth Miller. He and his wife, Kathy, formerly of Commerce, reside in Burleson. She had one granddaughter, Kati Miller Jones and her husband, Dalton, of Mansfield, and two great-grandsons, Logan Jones and Aaron Jones of Mansfield.

Barbara's second marriage was to Dr. Paul McCoy in 1983. They were together for 16 years before he preceded her in death. Paul's surviving children are Robin McCoy Brooks and Husband Ted Leonhardt of Bellingham, Washington, Cheryl McCoy of Portland, Oregon and Paul McCoy III and his wife Anne of Pomfret, Connecticut. Also, his grandchildren, Barbie McCoy of North Oxford, Massachusetts and Elliot Brooks and his wife, Amanda, of Louisville, Colorado.

Barbara was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Commerce. Before her lengthy battle with Alzheimer's, she was an active member of Northeast Hunt County Retired Teachers, The Garden Study Club, The Rejebian Book Review Club, The Northeast Texas Chapter of MOAA and the Northeast Texas International Food and Wine Society. Barbara loved planning, preparing food and entertaining.

A memorial service will be at the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery.
