Myron Albert Methvin, 83, of Celeste, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at Briarcliff Health Center of Greenville.
A celebration of life service and burial will be held at 1:15 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas. June Hunt of Hope for the Heart will be officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 13, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel in Leonard.
Myron was born in Drew, Miss., to Martin Luther and Flora (McCain) Methvin. He graduated valedictorian from Minter City High School in Mississippi. Soon after, he volunteered for the U.S. Army draft, where he served as a cryptographer in Germany for two years.
He received an undergraduate degree in political science and law degree from the University of Mississippi. After college he went on to serve as a special agent for the FBI. He worked as an executive tax manager for Hunt Oil Company and then for the Maguire Oil Company until his retirement. Myron appreciated fine art in all forms, he enjoyed international travel, reading mystery novels, writing poetry and comics and spending time with his family and friends.
Myron is survived by his son, Marc A. Methvin of El Paso; grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth, Natalie, Nicole, Christian and Anthony; sisters, Verle LaFarra of McGehee, Ark., and Anita Nokes of Greenwood, Miss.; brother, Glenn Methvin of Owens Cross Roads, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews who called him "Uncle Marty."
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Reginald E. Methvin; sister-in-law, Marie Methvin; and brother-in-law, William "Billy" Nokes.
A special thank you to Linda Kay Burnett Causey, for her loving care and
support of Myron and to her family, Amanda and Mike McGee and their son, Dalton Benson for being there for Linda when Myron was forced to leave his home, due to his illnesses.
