Mary's Story

Mary Will Smith Butler, 98, of Commerce passed away Sunday, May 21, 2017, in Sulphur Springs.
Mary was born in Commerce on Jan. 20, 1919, to Anna May Oneal and Robert Smith. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from East Texas Teachers College where she also attended training school.
Mary was a creative artist with a flair for the beautiful. She was a passionate gardener and raised poppies and zinnias for those in traffic on Culver Street.
Survivors include her son, Jack W. Butler of Allen; her daughter, Anna Butler of Fayetteville, Ark.; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Butler, Alex Butler, Jesse McNaughton and Kate Lonberger; and her great-grandchildren, Brennan Butler, John Butler, Gwen Lonberger, Iris Lonberger, James Lanzarotti, Elise Lanzarotti and Eleanora Lanzarotti.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, June 10, at 2 p.m. at 2518 Taylor Street in Commerce.
Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
