Marvin P. Flowers, 87, of Greenville died Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Hunt Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Highland Terrace Baptist Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. Chet Haney, Rev. John Foster and Rev. Royce Litchfield will officiate. Interment will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Flowers was born in Memphis, Tenn., on March 29, 1929. He was the son of Pinkney Percy Flowers and Mary Emmaline Maud Ethel Hill Flowers. He married Joyce Jean Rollins on Dec. 24, 1953, in Heber Springs, Ark.; she preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 1999. He married Barbara Jean Williams on Jan. 3, 2009, in Greenville. Mr. Flowers was retired from the U.S. Army and from E-Systems in Greenville, where he was manager of Information Systems. He was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church and was active in the Salvation Army, Hunt County Shared Ministries (FISH), and taught tax classes for AARP.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Flowers of Greenville; son Bruce Flowers and wife Aimee of Las Colinas; daughter Tina Puckett and husband Charlie of Allen; stepchildren Larry Tippit of Grand Prairie, Steve Tippit and wife Denise of Greenville and Diana Gifford and husband Mike of Cooper; grandchildren, T.J. Puckett, Joseph Marvin Puckett, Avery Flowers and Emmaline Flowers; and stepgrandchildren Sarah Northcutt, Sam Tippit, Noah Tippit, Shelby Tippit, Sidney Tippit, Kate Tippit, Amelia Tippit, Kim Prieto, Ryan Toon, Laura Williams, Katy Gifford, Bud Toon and Buster Gifford.
Pallbearers will be Charles Roberts, David Roberts, Jerry Bench, Richard Hardy, David Diggs, Amos Lowry, Bill Dennis and Randy Ragan. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Friendship Sunday School Class at Highland Terrace Baptist Church.
The family requests memorials be made to Salvation Army or Highland Terrace Baptist Church Senior Adult Memorial Scholarship Fund.
