Jackie's Story

Text size

Jackie Rook, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, closed her eyes on Earth to open them in Heaven on March 17, 2017. She was welcomed into Heaven by her husband, S.D. (Delany) Rook; her parents, Ervin and Irene Palmer White; and her brother, Arlie White.
Jackie was born Feb. 2, 1935, in Pushmataha County, Okla., after which she grew up in Lamar County, Texas. She graduated from Powderly High School in 1953. She married her high school sweetheart Delany on July 29, 1955; and together they were blessed with two children and a lifetime of memories and friends. Jackie, Delany, and their young family moved to Terrell where they found immediate friends in everyone they met. Jackie worked for Dr. M.L. Risinger, Dr. Joe Urso and Dr. David Costello at the Kaufman Vet Center. Her pleasant personality helped her be an asset to each office that she worked in. Her tremendous heart and dedication to serve others was a testament to her devotion to serving her Lord. She was an active and longtime member of First Baptist Church of Terrell and she was a faithful attendee of the Faith Sunday School class. Jackie loved people, loved to bake and absolutely loved to travel to wherever she could see her grandchildren's activities and events. She was kind to everyone she met and her sweet spirit, caring smile and the sparkle in her eye will be remembered by all who loved her.
Jackie leaves to cherish her legacy her beloved children, Jan Rook of Dallas and Jeff Rook and wife Julie of Paris; treasured grandchildren, Kyle Rook and wife, Molly of The Colony, Joshua Rook of College Station, Mason Rook of College Station, Katherine Smith and husband Wesley of Mount Pleasant, and Jacob Rodgers of Paris, Texas; her precious great-grandson, Oliver Rook; devoted siblings Jimmie Long and husband Milton of Bokchito, Okla., Johnny White and wife Lavoy of Scurry, Ronny White and wife Dana of Carthage and loving sister-in-law Sandra White of Terrell as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, church family and a host of dear friends.
Funeral service was at 11 a.m., Monday, March 20, in the chapel of Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations. Jackie was laid to rest beside her husband at 4 p.m., at Red Hill Cemetery in Lamar County, Texas.
For those wishing to honor Jackie's memory, they ask memorials be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 403 N. Catherine, Terrell, 75160.
