Glen Ray Smithey, 70, of Greenville, Texas, passed away Monday, July 17, 2017, at the Medical City of Plano. Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 20, at 10 a.m. at Highland Terrace Baptist Church with Dr. Chet Haney officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City, Texas.
Visitation is Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
Glen was born in Greenville on June 16, 1947, to Raymond and Oleta Swinson Smithey. He married Wanda Talley on April 8, 1972, in Hunt County, Texas. Glen worked until his retirement as a lineman for the City of Greenville. Most days he could be found at Oak Creek Country Club, where he was an avid golfer.
Glen is survived by his son, Jason Smithey; brothers-in-law Andy Talley and wife Connie and Randy Talley and wife Paula; a sister-in-law, Frankie Smithey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother J.D. Smithey.
Pallbearers will be Terry Carpenter, Mike Morgan, Jamie Riley, Scott Smithey, Benjie Tally and Robert Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Ramirez, Bill Richardson, Austin Smithey, Brad Smithey and David Smithey.
