Egbert Derwood Nalls, faithful servant of God, went to be with the Lord on March 27, 2017.
Derwood was born in Greenville, Texas, on July 10, 1934, to Louie Bradford Nalls and Belah Inez Stratton Nalls. He was married to the love of his life, Mary Francis Abbott, on June 29, 1953. They were active longtime members of Johnson Street Church of Christ.
An avid outdoorsman, Derwood loved spending time hunting, fishing or just enjoying nature. Whether hiking through his deer lease or hunting the riverbeds of East Texas for arrowheads, his greatest joy was seeing God's splendor in the natural beauty of Texas. He loved to pass on the history of things and had an amazing knowledge of trees, plants and animals. His only greater love than being outdoors was in watching his grandchildren experience the joys of life. He had a long career working for E-Systems in Greenville and retired to Jefferson with Mary to enjoy their retirement years. They were active in their church at Jefferson Church of Christ where he served as an elder.
Derwood was preceded in death by his son, Larry Nalls, and his brother, Verdane Nalls.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters Sherry and husband Mark Emory and Terri Nalls; his grandchildren, Andrew Emory and wife Ruth, Adam Emory, Mason Nalls, Mykayla Nalls, and Marissa Nalls and great-grandchildren Kayden Emory, Ava Emory, and Amelia Emory. He will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
His graveside service was conducted Saturday, April 1, at 12 o'clock noon at Brigham Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Welch Funeral Home of Longview, Texas.
