Zelda's Story

Zelda Ruth Lassiter Cooper, 92, passed away Aug. 1, 2017. A graveside memorial service was held by her family on Aug. 6 at Memoryland Memorial Park, Greenville. Debbie Lyons of Caddo Mills Methodist Church officiated at the service.
She had a long history in Greenville, serving as executive secretary and overseeing the construction of the Greenville YMCA project when it was first established. She was also secretary to State Representative James D. Cole and retired as the office manager for Shirey Compay. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Worthy Matron and Worthy Grand Matron.
Preceding her in death were her first husband, Jack Lassiter Sr.; two brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Cooper of Rockwall; son Dr. Jack (Judy) Lassiter of Monticello, Ark., daughter Vanessa (Becton) Lassiter Pope of Caddo Mills; one brother and three sisters. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Joel Haden, Heather Lassiter Isaacs, Amelia Pope Crumpton, Emily Pope Coe and Leigh Lassiter Counts and 11 great-grandchildren.
