Roy Gene Harper, 76, of Commerce, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017, in Commerce. He was born Nov. 29, 1940, in Commerce, Texas, the son of James Cox and Dorothy Patterson Cox.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, at Commerce Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place Sunday, March 12, at Ridgeway Cemetery in Ridgeway, Texas.
Roy was born and raised in Commerce. He graduated from Commerce High School. Sometime later he served in the National Guard. Roy enjoyed collecting things — among them cars and motorcycles. As often as he could, he enjoyed fishing. Above all, though, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Roy is survived by his children, Kimberly Lackey and husband James and Grant Harper; grandchildren David Harper, Lakota Harper and Ian Lackey; great-grandchildren Leon Harper and Axel Harper; his brother, Larry Don Harper and wife Linda; stepbrother Bobby Young and wife Neva and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy Cox, and his wife, Dolores Harper.
