Rosa Cornacchione Constande passed away Nov. 4, 2017, at the age of 94.
She was born April 5, 1923, in Statesville, N.C. She wed George James Constande on June 18, 1947.
Rosa was preceded in death by her loving spouse of 64 years, George James Constande, who died Dec. 3, 2014, and her son, Michael Edward Constande, who died May 27, 1967; both are buried in Section E-125 of the Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, N.C.; her parents, Guy and Nannie Cornacchione; and her siblings, Tony, Guy, Lorena Bradshaw, and Victor.
Rosa is lovingly remembered by two sons and daughters-in-law, James Allan and Christy Jo of Yulee, Fla., and Vincent Andrew and Tammy Kay of Suffolk, Va.; three granddaughters, Vanessa Ashley Constande of Winter Garden, Fla., Sarah Jo Constande of Yulee, Fla., and Taylor Lynn Constande of Suffolk, Va., sister-in-law Shirley Cornacchione of Statesville, N.C.; a number of nieces and nephews; and her dear friend, Carol Coghill who was constantly by her side.
She graduated Statesville High School in 1940. After raising three children she entered college and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Science in Library Science from East Texas State University where she was elected as a member of Alpha Chi Honor Society. Upon graduation in 1972, she became the county librarian for for five independent school districts within Hunt County, Texas. She remained in this position until her retirement in 1988; at which time she and George returned to North Carolina to live.
Rosa enjoyed genealogy as well as reading, gardening, spending time with her family, and befriending every cat in the neighborhood.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Nov. 17, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Salisbury National Cemetery, 202 Government Ave., Salisbury, N.C.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation in her name may be made to a public library or school library of choice.
