Olin Vincent Farquhar
Olin Vincent Farquhar, 92, of Greenville passed away Oct. 4, 2019 at the Greenville hospital due to complications from a stroke. A memorial service will be held at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019 at 10 a.m., with Rev. Ronnie Baker officiating.
Olin was born Dec. 26, 1926 in Aquilla, Texas to William T. Farquhar and Lois Myers Farquhar. After graduating from Aquilla High School, Olin enlisted and proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. He married Allie Marie Anderson in Hillsboro, Texas in 1947.
Olin began working for Mrs. Baird's Bread in 1953 and continued working part time until January 2018. At the age of 91, Olin was still an active member of the Greenville bowling league and frequently drank coffee with several of his friends. He lived alone and did not want to be a bother to others. Olin was known as "The Breadman" within the Greenville community. He was a member of the local VFW and the American Legion. In his younger years, Olin flew small airplanes, helped coach the Greenville Boxing Club, taking them to tournaments, as well as winning many trophies for his drag racing abilities.
Olin is survived by three sons and a daughter: Dale and Debra Farquhar of Commerce, Ronnie Farquhar, Stephen Farquhar and Phyllis Smith of Greenville; three brothers and a sister: Billy Farquhar of Itasca, George Farquhar of Woodbury, Danny and Cathy Farquhar of Hillsboro and Sue Cockerham of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren: Jerry Farquhar, Angie and Brent Jordan, Monya and Joe Sterner, Shelly and Clint Farr, Brian Farquhar, Michael Combs, Chris Combs, Mark Daniel and Shayla Harrison and Ashley Geiger. He also has 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He also had an unofficially adopted granddaughter, Valery Jennings. Also, surviving is his faithful cat companion, Star, who was at Olin's side at all times for the last five years. Star was a lot of comfort and emotional support and a great joy for Olin.
Olin was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Betty Tribble, Kay Bennett, and Glenda Farquhar; three sister-in-laws: Maxine Farquhar, Jean Farquhar, and Claudis Ann Perryman; 2 brother-in-laws: Kenneth Bennett and Billy Anderson; the love of his life: Marie Farquhar and his grandson, Damon Farquhar.
The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to: Harrison House Assisted Living for all of the great care and the many friends he made there, Family First Home Health Care especially Anthony, Heather, Alicia and Kim, the ladies that stayed with him to help him get back on his feet in the very beginning, Quiana, Dell and Lucy and his dedicated friends that came often to take him to his favorite coffee drinking places and just to visit with him, Mark Eldridge, Henry Ellis, Don Fulton and John Paul Willaby.
