Uhlon Morell Williams, 97, presently of San Angelo and a previous lifelong resident of Greenville, woke up in the arms of our Saviour on the morning of May 8, 2017. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Ryan Abernathy and Rev. Kelley Reagan officiating. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery.
Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Born Nov. 28, 1919, in Lane, Hunt County, Texas, Morell was the son of Thomas Calvin Williams Sr. and Mattie Lorena (Hamilton) Williams. On Sept. 28, 1943, he married Mary Elizabeth Leggett in Greenville. Mary was the love of his life, and they were married for 65 years. Morell served our nation in World War II; he was in the engineers and served in the South Pacific. He worked as a metal repairman and worked for Ford Motor Company at the Dallas assembly plant until its closing in 1970, when he happily retired. Morell was a member of North Baptist Church, now known as The Church at River Oaks in Greenville.
Morell is survived by his children, Robert Tidwell (Haroula), Joyce Abernathy (Ron), Freida Williams (Phil) and James Williams (Cindy); 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers Thomas Calvin Williams Jr. and Charles Kenneth Williams, and sister Martha Jo Baldridge.
Pallbearers will be Calvin Williams, Marc Williams, Darin Aldridge, Dylan Cornett, Dustin Parker and Ryan Abernathy.
The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice Care of San Angelo, Cedar Manor Nursing of San Angelo, and Dr. Steven Burgess and his staff in San Angelo for the care given to Morell passionately known as Paw to everyone.
