Modesto (Moe) Lara, 82, of Greenville, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at his home. His funeral service will be 10 a.m., Feb. 5, in the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Chris Young officiating. Interment will follow in Caddo Mills IOOF Cemetery.
A rosary will be 6 p.m., Sunday, followed by visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Lara was born in Greenville on June 15, 1935, son of Marciano Lara and Mary Alanis Lara. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired as a supervisor at E-Systems; he formerly worked for Lance and the City of Greenville. After retirement, he was a driver for Car Quest. He was a member of Cotton Pickin Squares and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his daughters, Rene Lara, Paula Lara and Vickie Lara; sisters Tena Ramos and Nancy Hernandez; grandchildren Jason Wade, Nikki Lara, Taylor Hernandez, Joey Duncan, Ashlie Rusch, Robert Duncan, Amber Duncan, Chris Duncan and Jessica Lara; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Toni Lara; son David Lara; his parents; brothers Eddie and Cecil Lara; and his sisters, Rita Denton and Mary Lara.
Pallbearers will be Robert Duncan, Chris Duncan, Lonnie Wade, Martin Hernandez and Antonio "Poppy" Villegas. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Wade, Roberto Rios, Niko Rios, John Hernandez and Doug Dawdy.
