Mary Nell Pumphrey, 82, of Greenville passed away July 8, 2017 surrounded by her family at Colonial Lodge. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 12, at 10 a.m. at Highland Terrace Baptist Church with Rev. John Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Quinlan I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
Mary was born in Avery, Texas, on Nov. 28, 1934, to Johnnie E. and Iola B. George Collvins. She married Olan V. Pumphrey on Oct. 16, 1971, in Thornton, Colo. She graduated from East Texas State University where she was a member of Alpha Chi and also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Teachers. Mary worked as an elementary school teacher, working for Quinlan ISD and Bonham ISD until her retirement. She was a Sunday dchool teacher in Bonham at Duplex Baptist and was instrumental in starting Prison Ministry to families of inmates in prison in Bonham.
Mary is survived by her husband, Olan V. Pumphrey of Greenville; children J. Keith Killian of Grand Junction, Colo., Joseph B. Killian of Forney, Karen V. Carnahan of Annona, C. Elisa Miller of Oil City, La., Jennifer L. Weger of Azle, Vance L. Pumphrey of Bothell, Wash., Verna Ann Linker of Quinlan, V. Scott Pumphrey of Greenville, and Vaughn K. Pumphrey of Quinlan; brothers Gerald Collvins of Midland and John Ray Collvins of New Boston; sisters Marlene Potts of Garland, Sherry Sumpter of Eola, Ky., and Pam Weaver of New Boston; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Robert Cotton, Andrew Evinger, Nathan Evinger, Adam Killian, Michael Pumphrey and Jordan Weger. Honorary pallbearers will be Trace Killian, Brandon Pumphrey, Justin Pumphrey, Richard Pumphrey, Jarrod Weger and Joshua Weger.
