A funeral for Ken Davis, 82 of Athens is scheduled at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, Thursday, June 30, at Well Worship Church in Athens, Texas, with Rev. Johnny Allen and Pastor Dennis Newburn officiating. He will be laid to rest at Tool Cemetery in Tool.
Mr. Davis passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017, in Athens.
He was born Oct. 15, 1934, in Dallas to the late Marvin and Vada Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Vickie Brock.
Ken attended Rush Spring Oklahoma High School; Southwestern State, Oklahoma; School of Printing, Dallas; and S.M.U. two-week courses for the Chamber of Commerce.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1957.
His professional career included building contractor (150) homes; developed residential subdivisions (240) lots, real estate broker, Chamber of Commerce executive for 15 years.
Mr. Davis volunteered with the following organizations in Greenville, Y.M.C.A, Realtors Association, Tax Equalization Board, and Home Owners Association. He also volunteered for the following in Athens; president of Board of Directors of the following organizations, Athens Hospital (ETMC), Meals on Wheels in both Tyler and Athens. Additionally, Athens Fish Hatchery, and Athens Thrift Store (Board of Directors). He accumulated more than 20,000 hours of volunteer service.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years, Carolyn Davis; brother Donald D. Davis; sons Keneth Davis Jr. and Steven Davis; two grandchildren, Jeremy Davis and Mandy Harris; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will begin Thursday, June 30, and friends are cordially invited to visit Ken's family from 1 to 2 o'clock prior to the service at Well Worship Church, 2181 Hwy 175, Athens.
