- Joe Dennis Pendergrass, 83, died Friday, June 7, 2019, at his home following complications from surgery.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Maude Ann (Giles) Pendergrass; son, Steve Pendergrass and his wife, Barbie; son, Gary Pendergrass and his wife, Krista; son, Benny Pendergrass and his wife, Lynn; sister, Juanel Howard; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous friends.

Born in Meadow, TX, graduated from Chillicothe HS in 1954. Following graduation, he briefly attended Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls before moving to Dallas to work as an apprentice draftsman. In Dallas, he served in the US Army Reserves and also met Ann, where they married and began a family.

Moving to Longview, TX, in 1968, Joe was actively involved in the lives of his family and friends, faithfully serving as a teacher, Deacon, and Elder at the Pine Tree Church of Christ. A loving father, he supported his sons' educational and extracurricular pursuits. After a brief move to Conroe, TX, in 1978, Joe returned to Longview in 1979, where he lived until retiring. Joe and Ann moved to Greenville, TX, in 2007 to be closer to family.

Joe enjoyed many hobbies, but his love of music had the most impact, with his three sons becoming accomplished musicians, songwriters, and worship leaders. For over 20 years, he also sang in an acapella gospel quartet, Family Reunion, with his sons. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by family who were singing hymns that Joe enjoyed over the years.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Joe on Saturday, June 15th, 10am, at the Creekside Church of Christ in Greenville.

A special man of conviction to the Lord and utter devotion to his family. He touched my life in a special class taught by him and his wife. There are not many men like Joe, he was a good, honest and caring man. He will be missed. Praying for all those that love him.
