Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Joan (Kirby) Brodton passed away on Christmas Day, 2017.
Joan was born in Aitkin, Minn., on Nov. 11, 1932, to parents George Carno and Marion Beecher Carno.
Following her retirement from Waldenbooks in 1990, Joan and her late husband, Pete, traveled the world. They especially loved London and made many trips across the pond. They attended many concerts, plays and musicals together. She loved to read a good mystery and enjoyed bird watching. Joan had a great love for all the arts, but nothing gave her greater pleasure than spending time with her children, granddaughter and her great-grandchildren who loved their "Gigi."
Joan is survived by her daughters, Darla Baker, Joy Kirby and Mary Bryant and husband Ashley Bryant; her "very own" granddaughter, Sarah Schaeper and grandson-in-law Clint Schaeper; great-granddaughter Alyssa Cerbin and great-grandson Colton Schaeper. Also surviving are her beloved sister, Harriet Higgins of Las Vegas, Nev.; brother John Razmus and wife Fran of Yuma, Ariz.; and nephews Jason Higgins of Las Vegas, Bobby Schoonover of Greenwood, Del. and Joseph Schoonover of Preston, Md.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Brodton; her son, Jimmy Kirby and her mother, Marion Razmus.
The family wants to thank the staff at Legend Healthcare, especially hall one nurses for the special care of their mother. And a very special heartfelt thank-you to her daughter, Joy, who after returning to Texas in September 2016, devoted herself to overseeing her care.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association in her name.
A memorial service is planned Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at 2 p.m. with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
