Jessica Lauren Coe, 32, of Commerce, Texas, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017, at her home while surrounded by her family.
A gathering to celebrate Jessica's life will take place Thursday, April 6, at 6 p.m. at Commerce Funeral Home.
She was born April 14, 1984, in Mesquite, Texas, the daughter of Gary and Donna Coe. Her family later moved to Commerce, where she graduated from Commerce High School in 2002. Jessica performed with a competitive dance team, which led her to attend Kilgore Junior College to pursue an associate's degree in performing arts. She then attended Southern Methodist University, earning a bachelor's degree in creative writing and journalism. After a short time spent working for State Farm Insurance, she returned to Texas A&M University-Commerce where she earned her master's degree in English as well as beginning her PhD studies in English. Her dream was to become a professor at the university level. Jessica truly loved education. She was obviously dedicated to her goal of working in higher education. The fact that she was a strong, courageous individual helped her reach those goals.
Jessica also had a fun, whimsical side to her personality. She loved anything having to do with Disney. "Beauty and the Beast" was a particular favorite. She and her family were blessed to be able to visit Disney World last year; many lasting memories were created on that trip.
Jessica is survived by her parents, Gary and Donna Coe; her brother, Jeremy Coe and wife Emily; her sister, Jenna Coe; her nieces, Shelby Coe and Sadie Coe; her beloved dog, Bruiser; and numerous family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made in Jessica's name to the Edna B. Stephens Memorial Endowment, Texas A&M-Commerce Foundation, P.O. Box 3425, Commerce, Texas 75429.
