James Earnest Scarbrough, 86, of Wolfe City, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at the Medical Center of Plano. He was born Dec. 16, 1930, in Monette, Ark., to Dewey Melton and Gertie Holland Scarbrough. He married Betty Joyce Lacy in Wolfe City on July 3, 1959.
Mr. Scarbrough attended Calvary Baptist Church in Wolfe City, and retired from E-Systems. He was often seen on his daily walks around Wolfe City. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
He is survived by children, Becky Fortner and husband Richard, Jimmy Lynn Scarbrough and wife Diann and JoAnn Davidson and husband Jamie; grandchildren, Samantha Jo Holloway and husband Casey, James Allen Fortner and Becky Ramirez, Justin Scarbrough and wife Kate and Misty Colvey and husband Josh; four great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby Primm and brother, Aubrey Scarbrough.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Joyce Scarbrough; parents; and brothers, Herald Scarbrough and Leon Scarbrough.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., today, at R.W. Owens and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Morris officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City with Tommy Jones, Carl Lamb, David Dawson, Gene Dawson, Gary Steinbring and Dan McDonald serving as pallbearers.
