Harold Raymond Powers

Harold Raymond Powers (Ray), born in Greenville, Texas on April 29, 1950, passed away in Dallas, Texas July 5, 2019 due to complications from diabetes. He is survived by his wife of 33 years and tennis partner for life, Judy Berger, his children, Joshua, Adam and Rachel Powers, a brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Verna Powers of Katy, Texas, along with many other extended family members and friends and his dog, Duke Ellington.
He is pre-deceased by his sister, Alice Logan and his parents, Nell and Fred Powers.
Ray's professional career was working as a CPA but what he loved most was gardening, cooking, traveling, the arts (in particular jazz and ballet), watching the pros play golf and singing in piano bars with his children.
He was a Master Gardener who not only volunteered at the Texas Discovery Garden, the Arboretum, the Dallas Zoo and for the Master Gardeners, but loved to work in his backyard, where he had a butterfly and vegetable garden with 13 raised beds. He was most proud of his children who have matured into amazing young adults. His legacy continues as he chose to donate his body to science so that others will not have to struggle.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association, the Texas Discovery Garden, or a charity of your choice. A memorial will be held at Rhoton Funeral Home, 1511 S. Interstate 35E, Carrollton, TX at 1p on Saturday, July 13.
