Mary Gene Erwin passed away April 2, 2017, in Arlington, Texas.
A dedicated wife, caring mother, loving sister, and a woman of immeasurable strength and personal character, Gene Erwin touched lives and brought joy to those she met with the ease and natural grace of a woman with a truly generous and open spirit. Her large and loving family and her many faithful friends are both the testament to and legacy of her life lived in earnest charity.
Born Aug. 25, 1923, in Caddo Mills, Gene was the daughter of Lola Mae (Smith) May and Frank Manless May. She formerly resided in Greenville and retired in Arlington to be with family.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Erwin; brother Jack May; grandchildren Perry Houston, Ruth Johnson, Jason Johnson, Erin Whittle, Clayton Whittle and Andrew Whittle; seven loving great-grandchildren; son-in-law Dr. Dale Johnson; Jack Reynolds and Jeff Whittle, members of the above families; and so very many friends.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Johnny Erwin; her daughter, Linda Erwin Johnson; her grandson, Andy Johnson; and five brothers.
Service will be held at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in Greenville at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 8. Rev. James Ralson will officiate. The family will be available for visitation at the funeral home beginning at 12:30 p.m. until service time.
