Charles Frank Gunia, 80, of Point died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, at Briarcliff Health Center. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14, in the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Kelvin Prock officiating. Interment will be in Donelton Cemetery, with military honors.
Visitation will be Monday, 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Gunia was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Aug. 24, 1937. He was the son of Paul Fredrick Gunia and Edith Adelle Stout Gunia. He married Dorothy Boykin on May 30, 1961, in Amarillo. He was a retired major in the U.S. Air Force after 22 years and was a member of First Assembly of God in Amarillo.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Gunia of Point; sons Raymon Gunia of Greenville and Michael Gunia and wife Rafa of East Tawakoni; daughters Boonchu Garrett and husband Brett of Miller Grove, Anchalee Miller and husband Larry of Lone Oak and Penny Gunia of West Tawakoni; brothers Earl Gunia and wife Jan of Colorado and Robert Gunia of California; sisters Pauline Heisner and husband Neil of Florida and Patsy Burgess and husband Tom of Arizona; grandchildren Shandell Sixberry, Daniell Garrett, Kayla Rosenthal, Sarah Vaughn, Courtney McRight, Ashley Gunia, Karina Alvardo, Trevor Miller, Chole Miller, Paul Singleton, Angel Lopez and Noah Lopez; and a great-grandson, Matthew Rosenthal. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Gunia; infant daughter Christina Gunia; and his parents.
