Betty Lou Rogers Ecker entered into rest Aug. 26, 2017, in Clear Lake, Texas.
She was born Jan. 30, 1933, in Ft. Worth, Texas, to parents Dr. Ernest D. Rogers and Mildred Louise Rogers Dickinson. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., and Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth. She studied voice and was always passionate about music. She had a beautiful singing voice and was often asked to sing at church and other events. She went on to be a registered nurse for 50-plus years. During her career, while working for MHMR in Lufkin, Texas, she helped start numerous programs including halfway houses, alcohol-abuse programs, and the Burke Center. She worked as a registered nurse at both hospitals in Lufkin and in Greenville for most of her career, touching many lives along the way.
She dedicated the rest of her life to raising her five children, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister JoAnne Rogers Threatt and grandson Taylor Davis.
She is survived by daughter Diane Ecker of Crystal Beach; sons Mike Ecker of Lufkin, Bob Ecker and wife Linda of Nacogdoches, Jim Ecker of Alto, and David Ecker and wife Rebeka of McKinney, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A family visitation/memorial will be held at Lufkin First United Methodist Church Sanctuary Narthex on Wednesday, Sept. 6 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
